The gallows from which he hangs are actually a Tau cross, while the figure – from the position of the legs – forms a fylfot (or four foot) cross. There is a aura about his head and his face expresses deep entrancement, not suffering. As a whole, he suggests life in suspension, but life and not death.
The Hanged Man is a card of profound, if veiled, significance and it expresses the relationship between the divine and the universe. Understanding one's higher nature is also part of the symbolism. |
